ARTIST PROOFS (A/Ps), the very first prints made from an original work of art, are used to create an edition or run of fine art prints. If the artist doesn't accept the initial A/P, he or she makes corrections. The printer creates additional proofs until the artist is satisfied that the print/proof duplicates the color intensity, values, and details of the original work. These preliminary prints may include the artist's color correction notes, proof number, date, artist's initials, and the notation A/P (artist proof) or A/I (artist impression). When an A/P is accepted, the printer makes a numbered (limited) or unnumbered (open ended) edition of multiples from that final proof. Because each one is a unique image, every artist proof should be considered an original work of art.

Small size does not diminish a work of art's value. Smaller pieces can be grouped together, used to accent a larger work, incorporated with other objects to create a one-of-a-kind presentation, or displayed individually where wall space is limited.
