"Grillz Ah Blaze at Da Reef"

In 1969, a construction worker named Lowell Wheatley moved from the North Sound of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands to Anegada BVI. Ever since my teaching stint on St. Thomas is the USVI, I've loved the Caribbean. I'd taken Trudi to Jamaica, St. Thomas and Tortola, and was looking for somewhere new. My brother Bill recommended that I check out Grand Cayman, which at that time was a much less popular destination than it is today. We took our first trip in 1984 and fell in love with the clear water, uncrowded beaches, abundant marine life, good snorkeling, and great people.

Over the next several years, it was our winter vacation destination and we made many friends, including the four guys in the painting.
